The members of the marketing team – just like many other teams at VMRay – are spread over several continents. We have people in Turkey, the US Westcoast, Germany. We work with people in many more counties – all of us in “home office”.

Patrick

Team Lead Threat Research
Labs Team

What was your most exciting project so far?

The Threat Analysis team is responsible for continuously improving the detection of our product. This can be treated as a never-ending project as the business of cybercriminals is still growing. The detailed analysis of sophisticated cyberattacks, understanding and breaking down malicious software into its individual parts and putting these puzzle pieces together is always an exciting challenge.

How do you work together?

Although the Threat Analysis team from VMRay Labs is spread over several countries, we maintain a close working relationship. Apart from regular sync-up meetings, we attach great importance to a good team communication. This allows us to look at problems from multiple angles and solve them with the best possible result.

What stands out about VMRay as an employer?

VMRay has a great reputation as an employer and technology leader in the market. I really enjoy being part of a great team with very creative and smart people. The culture within VMRay is very pleasant, modern and allows you to find your best work-life-balance. It feels good to know that you are valued as an employee, and the employer goes to great lengths to make you feel comfortable.

Alex

Site Reliability Engineer
Development Team

What possibilities to grow does VMRay offer?

It offers great opportunity to develop myself and bring forward my own ideas, as I’m now taking on a totally new challenge of moving from a senior developer to the position of Site Reliability Engineer. This position is also new at VMRay, so there are a lot of “firsts” happening for everyone right now.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

As is the nature of a totally new position, my workday is still full of exciting new tasks and challenges. I would say, there is no typical workday for me, but I expect that to change in the near future as the new position is well established and the integration within our cross functional teams has settled.

How do you work together with different departments?

Currently this means reaching out to many different persons in the development department and beyond that to legal department and C-Level executives to establish the details of my new role. Everyone at VMRay is very open to exchanging ideas and thoughts, and I’m looking forward to the things to come.

Stephen

Head of Sales, US
Sales Team

Why did you start working at VMRay?

Recognizing the market demand for a Malware Analysis Platform that provides timely and accurate results, VMRay stands above the rest. VMRay presents me the opportunity to help Enterprises strengthen mission critical systems.

How would you describe your team?

The team is smart, energetic, collaborative, and forward thinking. We strive for consistent excellence, putting great people with a great product.

What was your most exciting project so far?

The most exciting part of my job is having a direct impact on the success of VMRay’s growth and Go-To Market Strategy. Knowing that my contributions are important in bringing a solution that Detects the Undetectable to the world is very rewarding.

Fatih

Senior Product Manager
Products Team

How do you work together?

Communication is the key to working effectively together as a team. Product management is omnidirectionally communicating and aligning with all the departments of VMRay, from R&D to Sales, from Marketing to Legal. These information exchanges happen at a certain frequency and we pay serious attention to keep them as productive and as efficient as possible.

What was your most exciting project so far?

The most exciting project would probably be something that we recurrently do. One of which is release scoping and planning, This includes having a concrete understanding of the company strategy, evaluating the feature requests, researching about those features, and coming up with a clear execution plan for the future releases. We receive good feedback from customers for the newest features right after every release. This makes everything worth it and makes it exciting to jump on to work for the upcoming releases.

What is your role at VMRay?

I am the Security Product Manager at VMRay. I lead the Advanced Threat Detection and Analysis related product initiatives which consists of the coolest and most useful features for the customers.  My duties in this role mainly include product roadmap planning.

This role requires extensive research, aligning with almost every department of the company, and having a good insight into security products. On top of planning and executing the roadmap for our products, I had another duty which I concurrently conducted until very recently.

Within that additional role, I led the Technical Development side of the Tech Alliance Partnership. Which included planning a roadmap for integrations with other security products such as EDR, SOAR, TIP, and SIEMs, meeting with people from these vendors, specifying requirements for integrations to both Internal and External development teams, and enabling sales and marketing.

Lynn

Senior Global Online Marketing Manager
Marketing Team

How do you work together?

Simply put, we work and collaborate as a team, a true league team: everyone in this team is a stellar player in his/her own area, and meantime, we work really hard to build and maintain a robust and encouraging team dynamic that allows everyone to perform exceptionally and realize his/her best potential.

We communicate shared purposes and objectives, build trust and openness, ensure willingness to admit & correct mistakes, and encourage diversity and inclusion. It is always transparent and encouraging at our weekly meetings and almost every communication occasion.

It is a true privilege and luck to be able to work for such a great team.

What was your most exciting project so far?

The digital marketing campaign enablement: the marketing team was relatively new when I joined the company, and we were facing many challenges at the time.  It’s like building an extraordinary garden from weedy ground: but thanks to the great team and leadership, I was entrusted and delegated to work fast and efficiently, and most of the issues and challenges have been resolved today. We’ve run many successful campaigns so far and a new gate to more sophisticated digital campaigns is opened.

It is a truly exciting project and again, a privilege and unparalleled experience working with such a stellar team.

What is your role at VMRay?

I am the Senior Global Online Marketing Manager at VMRay, and I lead integrated digital marketing campaigns from concept to execution.

Cathrin

Former employee
People & Culture Team

What makes your job special?

We are a very open, friendly, and dynamic team with a very generalist approach. We are always in close contact with other teams and support each other to ensure the continuous growth of the company and the satisfaction of our colleagues company wide.

What stands out about VMRay as an employer?

We try to treat all colleagues worldwide equally and aim to make everything as fair as possible. Unfortunately, this is not always possible due to different laws and regulations in different countries. Finding individual solutions for the respective colleagues so that they can take advantage of all the benefits that should apply company-wide is sometimes a challenge.

With VMRay’s two offices being in the US and Germany, how do they communicate and collaborate?

Of course, the HR team is always in contact with all the teams to find out what their needs are. Personally, in my job I am responsible for payments of all kinds to colleagues around the world and also have to do a lot of “number stuff” – so I would describe myself as an interface to the finance department.

With VMRay’s two offices being in the US and Germany, how do they communicate and collaborate?

Every team at VMRay is well connected and communicates using a variety of tools including email, messaging and video call apps, ticketing systems, and team specific platforms. This allows us to keep track of what needs to be done without interrupting the very diverse schedules within the teams. Every person at the company is also great about syncing up with video calls to keep in touch outside of the daily routine.

What is your role at VMRay?

I am a Senior Solutions Engineer, which consists of two primary responsibilities:
  1. Assisting the Sales team by providing prospects with technical demonstrations tailored to their needs and priorities as well as assisting prospects throughout their trials to best test the VMRay Analyzer solution.
  2. Offer trainings and gather feedback from current customers to provide information to our product management and development teams to improve the product.

What stands out about VMRay as an employer?

The two best aspects of working for VMRay are the product, and the overall teamwork and collaboration. In the role that I am in, it makes my job significantly easier to have a product that is known industry-wide to be the best-of-breed and still be able to surpass the expectations of the prospects and customers that I speak to.

VMRay is the first company I have worked for where everyone’s input is considered. Even early on in my time here, I felt like I was having an impact on the direction of product and the team. Both within your own team, meeting with other teams in the organization, everyone is willing to jump in to help and provide feedback on ideas.

Ben

Team Lead TFO, US
Sales Team

Timo

Controller
Finance Team

What are your main challenges?

One of my main challenges in the finance team as a Controller is the providing of reportings for the management and Investors. Therefore, I have to manage a lot of Data from different Systems and integrate them for example into a PowerPoint presentation. Another challenge is the set-up of or the related reporting tools, that make the reporting easier for the team. We are working on implementing PowerBi and are working a lot with Power Pivot already, to deliver most of the Data. Also the integration of NetSuite and Salesforce into our reporting is a big challenge for me and the team.

What does the culture at VMRay look like?

Culture at VMRay is very open minded. I feel like everybody is enjoying working at VMRay and you are very free regarding your place to work and your working time. It’s also important to meet with each other and you have the possibility to join get togethers or just play table tennis or darts in the office.

How do you work together?

In the team it is very important that we have an open communication. We have regular weekly exchanges with the whole team via Microsoft Teams (MS Teams), but we also schedule spontaneous meetings to solve business related problems (mainly via MS Teams). We also maintain regular exchanges with other departments such as HR and Sales.

Kilian

Jr. System Administrator
IT Team

What possibilities to grow does VMRay offer?

I’m here at VMRay for four years now, and what’s really remarkable in my opinion, is that VMRay has always given me the opportunity to develop my career dynamically. I started here as a student helper and through a plethora of different roles I have found my place in a line of operations, which I’ve never seen coming.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

This is a tough question for an IT-admin as no two days are the same. Currently we are a total of four FTEs in the IT team. We switch responsibilities for the helpdesk duties each week, so this dictates the ins and outs of any given week. If I for instance have helpdesk duties I’m the first person who will be contacted if there’s an issue which needs fixing. The remaining three weeks of a month are dedicated to projects. What I enjoy best in these project weeks is the intake of new or the transferal of knowledge when working with a colleague.

What does the culture at VMRay look like?

Work-life-balance is important, I doubt anybody will argue with that, but still as an adult most of your social interactions are at your job. Therefore, it is a privilege to consider a fair number of colleagues also as my friends. I believe this is due to our company culture which doesn’t only give the opportunity but also encourage friendly interactions with other staff members.

Liza

Project Manager
Project Management Team

What possibilities to grow does VMRay offer?

VMRay offers a multitude of possibilities to grow. From my personal development starting as a part time student to now working in project management and supporting multiple teams full-time, my growth has been accelerated in a way it would not have been possible anywhere else.

How do you work together with different departments?

In an ever flexible internal agile way cross-department communication is as crucial as inter-team communication. Here at VMRay every challenge requires you to work together with various experts from every domain. VMRay enables this through short processes and clear communication structures.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

For me there is no typical day, since every day is exciting and different. Besides of our Scrum based events inside cross functional teams, I support my teams with their daily tasks and challenges and guide them in shaping their goals of the next Sprint. Additionally, I support the rest of VMRay with my expertise in project management techniques and agile methodologies.

Gül

Information Security Officer
Legal Team

Why did you start working at VMRay?

I was looking for a part-time job when I joined VMRay. The reason I stayed with VMRay is the interdepartmental team dynamic, the consideration for the individual needs of each employee, and the international and diverse range of projects.

What stands out about VMRay as an employer?

VMRay is a company in growth, therefore the role as an employer is in regular development. Employees can participate in the creation of the working environment and influence it. In addition, employees are given the opportunity to personally fulfill their own potential and thereby bring out the best in the company and our product.

How would you describe your team?

Open-minded, solution oriented and professionally driven.

Alina

Team Lead
Office Team

What is your role at VMRay?

I am heading the Office Management Team. My team is responsible for the happiness and carefreeness of the co-workers, to help them doing a competent job. We are not only coordinating visitors and answering the phone –  purchase, organization of travels, team events, merchandise, the design of the offices, workplace health management, etc. are only a few of our tasks. In addition, we collaborate with our HR Team: Onboarding, trainings, feel good management are issues we master together.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the diversity of my tasks – each day is different. I like especially the design freedom – I can co-create parts of VMRay independent on every single day and can promote new issues. The working atmosphere at VMRay is awesome, which is also intensified by several team events and benefits. VMRay is like a family – no one is anonymous and everyone seeks for the same goals.

How would you describe your team?

My team is young, creative, dynamic and always willing to perform 200%. Therefore we are able to achieve a great deal and master especially new or stressful situations together. I can always count on my team!

IMG-20230609-WA0004
Katharina
Office Assistant

What was your most exciting project so far?

I would say that this was definitely the move to our new office premises at the O-Werk Campus in December 2022. There were so many different tasks in preparation of the move and it was very exciting to be part of such a big project and of course in the end to have it completed successfully.

How do you work together?

For me, one of the most important aspects within a team is a proper communication. There are a lot of tools provided to be able to communicate efficiently within the team and also company wide. My team is kind of my “work-family” and we stand up for and support each other wherever we can.

What stands out about VMRay as an employer?

VMRay offers many benefits for employees, from an everyday breakfast in the office through massages at the workplace and other health measures (for body and mind) and sports activities, to several team and company events a year. You are always encouraged to contribute your own ideas and implement them – nothing is set in stone.
